Melbourne Design Week 2017

Kelly Watts and Ryan Mischkulnig, 17 March 2017

The NGV and the Victorian Government's Melbourne Design Week is a perfect opportunity to connect with the local design community, find delight and explore new ideas. This year's theme is Design Values, "What does design value and how do we value design?" Many inspiring programs and exhibitions will be presented. Here are a few events that the staff at Bayly are particularly excited by.

Undervalued

You can find good design everywhere. Even the cheapest products can create delight and make the world a better place if well designed. The Undervalued exhibition presents a collection of products whose design value is not compromised by recommended retail prices.
Exhibition is at the Watchmaker at Piccolina Gelateria, Collingwood. Booking is not required and entry is free.

26 Original Fakes

26 Original Fakes explores the value of fake products, "how replica furniture draws focus to issues of authenticity, creative practice and the commercial market." Each contributor redesigned a replica furniture piece for the exhibition.
Exhibition is at the Watchmaker at Piccolina Gelateria, Collingwood. Booking is not required and entry is free.

Designwork 01

Designwork 01 acknowledges how product design contributes to the world apart from function. The exhibition presents products in a commercial art gallery. "Much like artists, the designers featured in the exhibition — many of whom contribute to the design field on a global scale, designing commercial products for international design firms — practice through an enquiry, using design to express, question, propose and test ideas about life and the world."
Exhibition is at the Sophie Gannon Gallery, Richmond. Booking is not required and entry is free.

Innovators: Australian Design and Innovation

Innovators: Australian Design and Innovation is a fascinating exhibition showcasing local inventions. Interact with digital content using augmented reality and explore Australia's design heritage.
Exhibition is at Monash University, Clayton. Booking is not required and entry is free
